Senior Systems Operation Engineer

OVERVIEW:
The Sr. Systems Operations Engineer is a catalyst to future IS infrastructure operations at Genomic Health. Working directly with the Associate Director, Global IS Production Operations and Database Services, you will provide operational support for both existing infrastructure and new technology implementation for future product research and development. This person should have validated experience with a broad range of technologies, especially in the areas of cloud computing and services in a Linux High-Performance Compute (HPC) environment. You will have a systematic approach to their work and will collaborate with key IT stakeholders, the IT Engineering, IS Infrastructure Engineers, Operations, and Database Operations teams to design, implement, document, and support cloud and on-prem solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Providing ongoing operational support, break fix and health maintenance for mainly AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure
·Documenting infrastructure operational runbooks, work instructions, and checklists while maintaining infrastructure service SLOs, implement monitoring, build standard operation procedure documentation and provide L1/L2 support to teams as part of the cloud delivery
·Participating in design review discussions with other members of the IT Infrastructure Services team while you
·Demonstrating broad knowledge of Linux system administration practices and troubleshooting including installation, deployment, security, maintenance, and backup enterprise services
·Exhibiting significant experience supporting daily operations, such as capacity management, performance monitoring, provisioning, and network systems connectivity of Linux server environments used for product research and development, especially including cloud specific knowledge (Cloud-init, EBS volumes)
·Displaying deep understanding of Linux software package installation, repository management, source compilation dependency and library management,
·Showing strong automation skills using technologies such as Packer, Ansible, Ansible tower, Vagrant, Nice to have: PowerShell.
·Experienced in the infrastructure as code, using GIT and branching models. Good to have: experience working with CI and CD
·Scripting in any of the following (scripting) languages: Shell(Bash), Python, Ruby
·Applying domain knowledge sufficient to recommend and execute Linux server hardware and software configuration, installation, patching, integration, upgrades and performance tuning
·Demonstrating extensive monitoring systems to facilitate quick, dedicated responses to routine failures, and to provide comprehensive performance data logging
·Familiarity with virtualization Environments (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V).
·Strong administration skills of systems in a mixed ISCSI SAN and NAS environment
·Validated analytical abilities, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
·Domain knowledge in HPC and system software such as cluster management/provisioning tools, job schedulers, etc. - including administration of SGE / OGE
QUALIFICATIONS:
·University Degree and 5+ years of relevant IT Infrastructure experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable - e.g. Master's Degree and 2- 3 years of experience.
·You'll have at least 2 years' experience handling AWS and/or Azure services
·You will demonstrate an automation mindset, and coding\scripting experience
·Demonstrate a wide variety of technical expertise in areas including: Linux and Windows System Administration, scripting and automation, root cause analysis
·You'll have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal employees, managers and customers as needed
·Documenting system changes and tasks-building analysis documents, instruction sheets, and systems documentation for completed systems as appropriate
·Integrating and apply feedback in a professional manner while prioritizing and working towards high-quality results
·AWS certification is a plus
