Support Technician, Service Engineering (Temporary)

As a member of our Service & Applications Engineering team, the Support Technician is responsible for helping the Service Engineering Group (SEG) Engineers who support complex robotic workstations, qPCR instruments, as well as other general laboratory instrumentation.

The position will contribute support to environments which include the Clinical Laboratory where our industry-leading Oncotype DX® clinical diagnostic assays are run, the R&D laboratories where new product concepts are developed, and our Manufacturing and QC laboratories, which provide high-quality reagents for use in the other lab functions within Genomic Health.

The ideal candidate will be working cooperatively in a fast paced and dynamic interdisciplinary laboratory environment, supporting stakeholders involved in adapting quickly to change and new technical challenges.

The Support Technician will participate, along with Service Engineers, in cross functional teams working in a variety of areas. These efforts will require excellent communication and collaboration with colleagues in Process Engineering, Assay Chemistry, our Clinical and Development Laboratories, Program Management, Research, Analytical Sciences, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and other groups

Possibility of conversion to a full-time position at end of contract.
· Coordinating and scheduling on-site vendor visits to GHI for preventative maintenance and/or calibration events
· Coordinating and preparing equipment for off-site shipment for preventative maintenance and/or calibration events
· Performing minimally technical Preventative Maintenance and service events (i.e. Agilent PlateLocs, etc.)
· Under direction, performing seismic bracing of laboratory equipment
· Coordinate and assist with equipment moves
· Requesting quotes, ordering, and maintaining repair part inventories for the service group via the GHI Materials ordering system and via outside third party vendors and suppliers.
· Maintaining the Service Engineering Group's work room
· Performing routine equipment audits for metadata concordance
· Assist with equipment life-cycle management; assist with disposal or retried laboratory equipment
· Assist staff Service Engineers with performing equipment Preventative Maintenance as needed or assigned.
· Assist staff Service Engineers with performing instrument installations and qualifications as needed or assigned
· Under direction, assist with service document management (obtaining service reports from vendors, archiving, scanning, copying, preparing document bundles for review)
· Assist with reviewing and updating, under direction, existing Standard Operating Procedures for the Service Engineering Group
· Under direction, assist with data mining and information gathering for use in tracking Key Performance Indices and assist in general failure investigations
· Maintain positive customer and service oriented interactions with customers and colleagues
· Other duties as assigned by staff Service Engineers or Service Manager
· Role is an individual contributor position with no supervisory duties
· B.S. in biology or related field or biomedical engineering discipline desired
· At least 6 months of laboratory experience working with general and/or automated laboratory equipment either through past employment or college/university training.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, managers, vendors and customers.
· Experience following detailed Standard Operating Procedures either through past employment or college/university settings.
· Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner
· Able to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality
· Ability to work as part of a team
· Must be highly organized and able to dynamically schedule service events and coordinate between different stakeholder's schedules
· Must have high attention to detail
· Ability to maintain flexibility and prioritize work schedule to support rapidly changing priorities
· Working knowledge of Excel, database, laboratory information management systems, and other file management applications
· Basic knowledge and experience of automated liquid handlers (Tecan, Hamilton)
· Exposure to laboratory Quality Systems and documentation requirements
· Experience coordinating and scheduling vendor service visits
